A poem to my local Starbucks employee

It’s beenĀ  a year since we’ve been seeing each other

At least twice a week

We’ve had a good relationship for the most part

You say hello, I say hello

I place my order, you take my money openly

Yet, I am troubled

At the end of every conversation

You ask me my name

Do I mumble, do I look so different each day?

Or perhaps you have amnesia

So now I have no other choice

And now I’m giving different names

I am so sorry to do this

But I started with the J’s

And really hoping, I don’t get to the K’s

before you realize

I am the same customer who comes to you

At least twice a week
